Coming back from the alpine pasture

When the days become shorter, the nights cooler and the air clearer, then the shepherds and the cows and sheeps came back from the mountain pastures.

The return to Dobbiaco - Toblach will take place on Saturday, 24th September 2011. 300 animals will arrive around noon in the square in the centre of Dobbiaco and continue along the Via Gustav Mahler Straße to the farm “Troger”.

The day will end with typical music and traditional specialties of the area.

Music time in Alta Pusteria

Dobbiaco in this Summer offers high quality music, famous artists and a lot of entertainment. Gustav Mahler is the central figure of the two music festivals, which will take place in the renowned Cultural Centre Grand Hotel.

As part of the centenary of the death of the famous Bohemian composer, the Gustav Mahler Music Weeks offer a very special program. But even during the 2nd edition of the Festival Alto Adige Mahler/Kontraste/Belcanto the most important works of Gustav Mahler, who from 1908 to 1910 spent his summer vacation in Dobbiaco, will be performed.

Joe Cocker in Val Pusteria

The famous musician Joe Cocker this year as part of its "Hard Knocks Tour 2011" will be a guest in Brunico in South Tyrol. The concert will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2011 in Brunico in Piazza Municipio.

Without doubt, Joe Cocker more than 40 years is a very big star in the international music business and his music reaches the hearts of his fans.

Carnival procession in Toblach / Dobbiaco

Only a week left till Carnival! On Thursday, the 3rd March 2011 Toblach / Dobbiaco will be transformed into a colorful place, because it’s taking place the Carnival procession. It starts in front of the Grand Hotel, near our Hotel Laurin, at 1.30 pm. A lot of groups present their masks and Carnival floats during the way to the centre of the place, where they are getting awarded.

In the centre awaits everbody a marquee with a lot of entertainment also for the little guests.

International cross country ski races in Dobbiaco

Dobbiaco is the mecca for all friends of cross country skiing and so, also this year it is scene of several international cross country ski races.

Just for the 5th time in Dobbiaco the World Cup in cross country skiing from the 5th to the 6th of January 2011. In program 4 races, valid for the Tour de Ski.

In program than, from the 15th to the 16th of January 2011 the Pustertaler Ski - Marthon over 28 and 42 km and from 05th to the 06th of February 2011 the cross country ski races Dobbiaco – Cortina.

The new Nordic Arena Dobbiaco, a few passes away from the Hotel Laurin, will be starting and / or arrival point of several races.

Autumn in Dobbiaco

Also during autumn Dobbiaco offers a lot of interesting events:

so, from the 30th of September to the 2nd of October 2010 in program the Colloquy of Dobbiaco which treats the theme “The money governs the world – bud who governs the money? Ways for an eco-social financial management.”

On 16th of October 2010 in program the mountain course up to the Bonner hut. The distance is over 5,5 km and the difference in altitude is 800 meters.

And from 16th to the 17th of October 2010 Dobbiaco celebrates the “Kirchtag” in the center of the village.

Shopping at the evening and local specialities

The shopping at the evening and local specialities in Dobbiaco is part in summer program and it is meeting point for guest and locals, for old and young people.

Enjoy the music and the culinary on 04th, 11th, 18th and 25th of August, when the shops will be open up to 10.30 p m and on 04th and 18th of August 2010 when the farmer of Dobbiaco offers their regional specialties.

The pageant in Dobbiaco

Every 2 years, so also this year, on August 15, in Dobbiaco in program a big pageant, which has the work of the farmers as theme. Sowing, haymaking, he harvest – without the wonderful work of the farmers Dobbiaco would not be such a cultivated and marvelous landscape. The pageant starts at 2 pm at the Grand Hotel of Dobbiaco, near the Hotel Laurin, to arrive than in the center of the village. Here you find still some photos from the pageant 2006.

 

 

Gustav Mahler Music Weeks in Dobbiaco/Toblach – Four anniversaries

This year Gustav Mahler would be celebrate his 150th birthday, exactly 100 years ago he composed the “Adagio” from the 10th Symphony, the festival would have place for the 30th and the Mahler Protocol for the 20th time. Good motive for booking your holiday in the Hotel Laurin in Dobbiaco and attending to the Gustav Mahler Music Weeks.

For classical music friends the opening concert with the “Bundesjugendorchester” from Germany under the direction of Gabriel Feltz is especially recommendable.
